JUXT was formed in 2012 after the founders - Malcolm Sparks and Jon Pither - became inspired by Rich Hickey’s vision of 'simple made easy'. Both Malcolm and Jon had been Agile consultants who arrived at a similar position of leading teams inside of two different Tier-One investment banks. They had become exasperated by the level of the waste in the software industry, where large teams servicing huge code-bases riddled with accidental complexity had become the norm.
They had both tried Clojure, successfully introduced it into their teams and ultimately saw the benefits of using a simpler approach to build sophisticated software. From this common experience and vision they formed a professional services offering, wanting to take the lessons learned out to the wider industry.
Since its inception JUXT has delivered high profile projects such as UK property portal OnTheMarket.com and has rewritten the world’s busiest newspaper website. JUXT bootstrapped a public electric bikes scheme, and also deployed a PCI DSS compliant portal to handle sensitive personal data.
Recently JUXT has revisited the financial domain, building a bitemporal data-store to provide queryability across large data-sets and has built a suite of trading dashboards to stream and aggregate trade data.
The mission of JUXT is to deliver to our clients the benefits of using a modern and simple technology stack, and to give back to the software development community. JUXT contributes open source software, sponsors open source initiatives and gets involved in various software conferences, including running our own. JUXT also maintains a popular JUXT blog.
JUXT is focused on learning and refining the approach to building software. Clients see the benefits of reuse and the increasing speed of delivering projects using familiar tools and libraries. JUXT has demonstrated and proven the evolving stack in terms of scale and security. The stack has been penetration tested and is submitted to regular audit review.
JUXT operates a software development center in Milton Keynes (UK) where software is built for UK and international clients. JUXT also has consultants working on-site at client locations across Europe. There are a growing number of fantastic developers working at JUXT who foster community and exchange ideas with a large network of Clojure developers across the world.
The formula is simple: to marry the best people the company can find with the best set of technologies. If you’d like to talk with us at JUXT, either to join us as a software developer or to see if we can help your projects, then please drop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org to say hello.
